Alka Himanshu Tanna, 59, of Silver Spring, left the Capital One bank on New Hampshire Avenue in Colesville around noon on Jan. 14, Montgomery County police said.
As she tried to cross the parking lot, a white Lexus SUV, driven by her husband, 59-year-old Himanshu Maganlal Tanna, accelerated and struck her several times with his car, police said. Alka Tanna died at the scene, and her husband was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Himanshu Tanna told police he and his wife were having financial problems with Wheaton Park Beer and Wine Corporation in Glenmont, which they apparently co-own. He said the two disagreed on whether to renew a lease for the store -- she wanted to and he did not, according to court documents.
He also said he noticed money missing from the $200,000 in cash he kept in their home and believed his wife was spending it without giving any explanation as to what she was buying, court documents said.
